{CSA 2012} Share 8 :: Recipes

by Nutrition Fruition on February 20, 2012

I woke up feeling like I needed a little alone time, just to clear my head.  I’m going through a creative phase right now, so my mind just feels really full… full of more ideas than I know what to do with!  So Papa went about the task of getting everyone ready for the day, while Mama took a drive out to Swank Farms by herself!

It never ceases to amaze me how much growth I see from week to week.  Its exciting to me!  I think I finally get why my mother used to notice the vegetation everywhere we went, and in every movie we watched, instead of actually watching the movie!  ;0

I know its weird.  Believe me, I’m self-aware enough to know I’m a tad odd.  The way I gush about these vegetables non-stop, the way I take great care to set them up “just so”, so I can take pictures of them this way… its not normal.  But who wants to be normal?  Besides, when I look at these pictures, I see art, in more ways than one.

I think some people take food for granted.  It’s understandable when you can just head over to the grocery store, fill up your cart, stuff your fridge, let some of it spoil… then into the trash it goes.  But, when we think about how blessed we are, how truly fortunate that makes us… it changes us.  And when we see how valuable food is, what an important role it plays in our lives and health, how grateful we should be to those who grow and provide it to us… it changes us.

I see an art form when I witness what the Swanks do on their Hydro-Natural Farm.  Therefore, I do see art when I look at their produce… Yummy, Delicious, Edible Art.

  • Eggplant :: Roasted Eggplant, Tahini, Heirloom Tomato + Mint
  • Broccoli ::  Best Broccoli of Your Life
  • Cherry Tomatoes :: snack
  • Tiny Tomatoes :: snack
  • Red Turnips & Chinese Spinach & Pac Choi :: Papa’s Curried Pork Pot with Bok Choy
  • Buchwheat Sprouts ::  as of right now, I have no idea… any suggestions?
  • Red Lolla Rossa Lettuce ::  salad of some sort
  • Red Lettuce Mix :: salad of some sort

Well, that’s the loose plan for this week.  I have a lot of salad bedazzlers in my pantry (assorted nuts, seeds, dried fruit, etc.) so I’m going to just throw stuff together, I’m sure.  I am getting a lot better about figuring out how to pull meals together without a recipe.  But, I must confess, the real reason I’m being less rigid is because, like I said, I’m feeling creative.  Just not in the kitchen.  ;0

Stay tuned and see how it all turns out!  Meal planning around our CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) share definitely helps us bring our Nutrition goals to Fruition!

What did you pick up at your CSA or Farmer’s Market this week? Feel free to share your links, pictures, and/or recipes in the comments section!  And if you have any suggestion about the buckwheat sprouts, please share!  :)

I always do sprouts on a sandwich or wrap. I use hummus as the spread, stuff with veggies and sprouts and it’s delicious!
